Flip presentation

Our task was to choose a topic and do a presentation on it. After we finished presenting it we were given the task of having to do our final assignment based on it which was to make an animated infographic video.

Chosen topic: Coffee Culture

LATCH:
L - Location
T - How many times the coffee beans have been harvested
C - Origin of harvested coffee beans
H - Which area drinks the least to the most coffee

The Video

First things first we had to make the storyboard and the script. However I may have rigged a Live2D model before that for the sake of making our lives easier so that we wouldn't have to animate scene by scene. No, I'm not going to explain how to draw the model and separate the layers, its a coffee bean with a face for god's sake! Its already as simple as it is.

When it comes to making Live2D models the first thing you want to do is create meshes and parameters. Please actually do create meshes and parameters, your future-self will thank you.
I started off with the eyes and made it so that they can blink, and smile. After that I did the body which I forgot to record.

Once body movement was set, use the warp deformer to position the eyes. Double check that you have synthesized the corners you won't regret the extra step.
Mouth open should be rather easy to rig its literally opening and closing the mouth. Now continuing on make the mouth forms with a frown to default to smile. After that combine the 2 parameters together and synthesize the corners and work on it from there. The main take away is to make sure that the whole model doesn't look awkward in moving.

Once you've finished the mouth rigs, rig the thing at several angles matched with the face.

Test out model in physics settings. Use mouse to move it around or the animated patterns.

Storyboard and Script

Wing kie and Ilhan did their best to write the script. Simplifying the information at hand and working it into easily digestible facts for the viewer.

I made a model showcase using canva and Vtube studio. All recorded using streamlabs obs and then put together in adobe premiere pro.

You can download the vtuber model here!

Figure 0.5: Final scene

Sahibur did most of the video's assets. I mainly helped out with the structure of the first scene and the final scene.

Voice-overs

CAST:
- Sahibur as Brewster
- Jessica (Me) as Phin
- Cheng Yue as Café
- Ilhan as Kahvi

We gathered at my apartment to record the lines. We took turns recording the lines on both stream labs OBS and adobe audition. Using the footage recorded on stream labs we had a green screen on the back in order to chroma key out the coffee beans so they could be placed on different backgrounds. We recorded all the lines separately and I sent that to my friends for editing.

Final stages Editing

Figure 0.6: Editing WIP_adding subtitles

Cheng Yue did an amazing job overlaying the audio with the animation and the sub-titling. We had a few hiccups here and there but Elysa managed to pull through with the audio work and editing til the last minute!

Reflection

Observation
Group work is exhausting. Its hard to get all of the members into 1 meeting. Some members being really busy considering the other subject was major project 1.

Findings
I learned a lot about the thing I drink almost daily. The people in Finland turned out to be built different. I didn't know that they drank that much coffee. I definitely learnt more about a niche topic than I would in a normal semester.

Experience
I kind of wish we had more time I guess. We were under a lot of pressure to get this done in time.
