G5 FLIP Presentation - Week 1 by Group 5 - Team 4

Infographics - a simple and powerful way to communicate ideas in a visual form. A highly effective way of capturing your audience's attention

1. List infographics

An informational graphic that uses a list to make a point.

2. Statistical Infographics

Uses Pie charts, bar graphs, etc. to represent data. Its easier to understand

3. Timeline

Useful to showcase points that are in a chronological order, Best to showcase points spread out across time, Best accompanied by icons, graphics, images etc. Can be used for things like: brand stories resumes and historical development of something

4. How-to

Show the steps involved in creating something, Best fit for visualizing how-to articles and the description of any process with several instructions to follow

5. Process

Refers to a specific description of a process, Often shows a step-by-step process.

6. Comparison

Used to compare between two main points - like products, places etc. Also useful for visually comparing and contrasting two seemingly different things to reveal similarities or commonalities

7. Location

Used as a visual to communicate trends across a region , be it local, national or global. Takes the form of a map with icons and color-coded regions. Ideal use for comparing regional and global statistics on a relevant subject that readers will care about

8. Flowchart

Refers to a specific description of a process. Often shows a step-by-step process.

9. Hierarchical

Organizes information according to levels, commonly takes form in the shape of a pyramid. Compare the different levels and show the relation between each of them.

10. Single Chart

Uses one chart as the main point of visualizing the data. Performs a lot better in terms of shares and views on social media platforms

11. Visualised Numbers

Basically various stats and figures represented by using large numbers, icons or other graphic elements, it’s purpose is to provide a number, or a set of numbers, in a more appealing way visually rather than within a boring paragraph.

12. Anatomical

Displays information of a topic using a visual metaphor (e.g. a human body). Doesn’t have to be used for humans only, can also be used for objects or ideas.

13. Visual Resume

Visuals with a purpose. Using charts that intentionally highlight key statistics and accomplishments. Open to all non-traditional resumes: marketing, advertising, graphic design, high tech and startups.

Latch Theory

A way to sort information

L- Location

Organizing info based on location

A- Alphabet

Organizing content based on alphabet

T- Time

Uses time to categorize information

C- Category

Sorts info based on certain categories

H- Hierarchy

Arranging information by any order, such as, size, cost (Low to High OR High to Low), popularity etc.

Exercise 2 - LATCH

Size resolution: A4

We needed to create an infographic based on the LATCH theory, explained in the lectures above.

I decided that I was going to do the thing I am currently the most passionate in Promise of wizard (Mahoutsukai no yakusoku). Promise of wizard rather better known by its shortened version Mahoyaku is a Japanese online simulation video game created by Coly. It was released for Android and iOS devices in November 2019 in Japan.

The game revolves around you the player who gets whisked away into another world. Here you are the great sage, and your job is to assist the chosen wizards in their quest to defeat the great catastrophe which is an annual event where the moon descends upon the world in order to destroy it. We can blame the legendary philosopher Murr Hart for the cause of this, however his mind's likeness is now that of a cat. (see Murr_mhyk wiki)

Visual Reference

Figure 0.0: Visual references

Once I'd finished gathering my visual references I then got to sketching the rough drafts with at least 3 ideas and 3 different assets that I would like to use as a display for the information.

Figure 0.1: Rough sketches.

I ended up going with idea no. 3 for this project and started working on the poster itself. This was the first digitization of the sketches.

Figure 0.2: First draft of the poster.

The background used for the poster came straight from the mhyk wiki which displays the map of the world that we were transported to.

figure 0.3: background used map of the wizard's world

Once I was happy with the arrangement of things I started adding the gacha cards of the wizards into the poster. I used the magic wand tool to select the template and pasted the images directly from the wiki. I also wasn't sure of the arrangement so I rearranged it and made some of the panels bigger, more specifically east. west and central.

figure 0.4: poster with wizards and changed positions

Once I liked the new arrangement I was planning on adding the transparent gradient in canva due to my stylus' sensor being broken. but then my friend suggested that I just use the gradient tool and clip it to the panels which worked wonders.

Figure 0.5: Final arrangement with transparent white for info

Once I was finished with the poster's graphic elements I then added their names and ages, for a bit of extra bonus I've also included their spells. I used The Seasons for the names and Cinzel for the info within the panels explaining who they are. Heirarchy wise the strongest wizards are on the top while the more weaker ones are on the bottom. As for the North and South located on both ends of the map their heriarchy goes from left to right.

Reflection

Findings
It turns out this wasn't a very long assignment. I thoroughly enjoyed going through the wiki and teaching my friends about this game that I love.

Observation
My stylus broke during all this so I had to find other ways of getting my work done.

Experience
Overall Great. I made something I can show to people who ask me about this game. And it should be able to aid me in explaining about the story in great detail.
