Playing a Game

For this assignment we were tasked to make characters for a game of our choice. Think of it like a DLC. Where you add new content with your own twist into the game. So for the first week, I played games.

During brain storming I was considering to do light-novel games, but was shot down immediately. Fair enough...In any case I had to pick a game with 3D elements to it. I had thought of doing games such as identity V an asymmetrical 4v1 horror survival game. But I decided not to, I wasn't invested enough. From a plethora of options, I decided on 3 different games. No straight roads, a music game with combat elements, Guilty gear strive a fighting game, and a Zenless zone zero an action packed gacha game filled to the brim with action packed combat.

After Bunkbed Junction’s triumph over NSR and defeating Clay, Mayday and Zuke set off on a journey outside of Vinyl city to further their horizons. They travel the country side getting lost in a forest, a haunted ghost town and an abandoned theater. From there they receive training from 2 of the new characters and team up with them to defeat the final boss being the owner of the abandoned theater. Gameplay is similar to the main game just with new music, stage designs and settings each to represent each of the characters.

Warning: The theme of these characters were chosen at random off a wheel.

After the events of strive and the DLC storyline not much is going on, Dizzy is now queen, Sol and Jack o are now humans happily living the married life they always wanted, life is great for these characters overall. So in order to spice things up I created a couple of new faces causing a bit of fun now and then. You have: The janitor who has one eye sown shut The Ditzy gardener who claims to be a fairy Spider bard...just a giant mutated spider who can play the lyre. All of a sudden they are yanked from their normal everyday lives and thrown into a situation where the world hangs in the balance, or just interacting with the royal family on occasion.

The world’s end travelling circus is a weird bunch. Consisting of performers and outcasts led by Mr. Apocalypse, they travel the outer-ring as well as the world outside of New Eridu to spread joy after the hollows took over. Although they try to make people happy sometimes they end up scaring the crowd a little more than they’d like. Like our protagonists and the cunning hares however they also have a side hustle that being the fact they’re hollow raiders. The ring master acting as they’re proxy and their commissions are usually delivered by personal request rather than the interknot. They’re playstyle includes a lot of acrobatics, deception and explosives (they are a circus after all). They enter the story when the circus comes to town and have to work together with phaethon due to the ring master falling ill in order to rescue the new circus recruits who fell into the hollow.

Feedback

General:

Personal: -

Reflection

Findings
The similarities between these games are due to all of them having the same genre, but the way they handle the combat aspects are all different.

Observation
The more stylized the characters and the art style is more likely its a game where anything goes and you can let your imagination lose to the highest degree.

Experience
I had a lot of fun sketching these characters and studying they're art styles. It takes the fun of creating characters to the next level and lets you study the techniques that the artists use for the game's official art itself.
