Task 2 - Character design Development

Default design

For Citrouelle's default design I followed what I made for the silhouettes. The first design was simple. I didn't add the details until much later so I know what I'm working with. I later added the details by replacing the frills on the sleave with huge cuffs, adding details on the cape, pants and vest as well as shoe laces and gold embroidery on the boots and fixing the feet.

before and after default design

Hero pose

So for the hero poses I had to come up with the pose that would eventually become the splash art. At first I wanted to do a sitting pose like Venti but it doesn't really work. Especially for an eccentric phantom thief like Citrouelle who would make every insane person in Teyvat look sane in comparison.

I went through several poses, about 8 to be exact. And after a while you start losing motivation, so I brought the poses from my silhouette sheet and took 3 of them. What I got in the end was the Ego pose I made in the start. I feel like a character like Cirtouelle would be very egotistical and flashy, he sells cursed books for cheap so he's gonna need a ton of charisma. And so I gave him the pose where he looks like he's about to brag about his knowledge.

I kept the drawings simple and stuck with stickmen so I can get a more expressive kind of pose. I was going for showman based of Lyney and Lynette, but I wanted him to have a giant smirk.

 Skins

In the next section there wasn't really much I could pull off, I had gotten a huge art block that week and I was slowly beginning to lose motivation. I came up with 3 concepts being a winter skin, A scarecrow for halloween and an Inazuma skin. The winter skin was chosen because of the flowiness found in genshin characters.

Skin idea exploration

So I took the winter skin and added more details to it and gave it some color. Such as his vision in a little ribbon and pockets with gold embroidery.

For the color scheme I chose something akin to that of a popular game character known as sans from the hit indie horror game undertale. I used blues to represent winter and the upcoming season and kept the purple with the character's colour scheme.

along with white and brown boots to contrast with the whole outfit.

subcontext: Skin Lore

So I kind of made this on the fly....
After the Fontaine prophecy has come to pass Citrouelle sort of lost his meaning in life. He was a phantom thief that stole antiques for the sole purpose of trying to find out secrets of the primordial sea in order to keep himself alive!  What does he do now? go back to selling cursed books for a cheap price? No...Citrouelle was going to join the Fatui. So he booked it out of his shop, snuck aboard a ship heading to Schneznaya and dashed to the Fatui headquarters where he proceeded to get kicked out (figuratively and literally). Defeated he went back to his little shop empty handed. Proceeding to bother the citizens of Fontaine with his antics once again.

Expression study

So  I may have forgotten to put this in my slides. but there are some expression studies I did of the character. He feels things other than psychotic.

Weapon design

I honestly did not have the best weapon ideas mainly because I was losing my mind around this. But here are the designs for his book of delusion.

(wasn't particularly happy about this one but the one in the splash art is better)
