Stop motion project: Revenge of the rubbish man

In this project we were supposed to create a stop motion animation. I paired up with Cheryl (Chooi Cheng Yue) and we got to work.

We came up with the script at 1 am in the morning, brain storming ideas and throwing things at the wall and seeing what sticks. Basically we got crazy at 1 am in the morning going wild at the premise of a trash kaiju taking over the world and flooding the seas with junk and trash to get revenge on the humans that polluted the earth.

I wrote the script after that. It had 5 acts in total and 2 different scenarios. the first one would be longer and had a more comedic tone and the second one would be shorter and end in tragedy. We chose the first one because we had to fill up the 1 minute time slot.

Making of set and props

Sticking with the theme of the story we collected trash and used that to make the set and props.
Our concept art and stuff were pretty simple, however we did have to change the design of the rubbish man. He was just to big. And we had to cut his design down by a lot.

We used wire to make rigs so the puppets can move and crumpled up paper for the set. We also painted the rubbish man giving him a brown coat and a little crown, One of the main Inspirations of this character was Poupelle from Poupelle of chimney town japanese animated children's movie.

We just made the two human characters on the go using clay.

The other props were created by using paper and cardboard.

 Filming and post production

It took us 3 days to film, we managed to finish everything. We'd stay in school longer then we should just to get everything done. We used wires to make items fly and tape to hold things together.

Once everything was ready we masked everything out in Premiere pro and added the sound effects.
Exported everything and uploaded onto drive. Cheryl then added a bit more in order to fill out the 1 minute time slot since we only had 50 minutes post production.
