Weeks 1- 3

Week 1 - Task Division - 2/5/26

So a lot of developments happened within 2 semesters and there are changes which has left us in a very dire situation, but there might be hope here's what we are going to be changing:
1. We're gonna make a short film
2. We're going to use Vroid and Warudo for our character animations and to save on time.
3. We're going to make our own textures for the model
4. Blender is going to be our main platform in where we work

We didn't end up using Warudo but Vroid was our first stepping stone into time saving. We then had our first ever online meeting for the semester where we split our tasks and planned our workflow timeline.

Week 1: Vroid character model, texture (learning)
Week 2: Environment, Model and texture
Week 3: Block in
Week 4,5: Animation
Week 6: Polishing, rendering
Week 7: Editing and compositing, sound

<iframe src="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1c7AWdTdRT_3K7-B2ReFFkI4WlZIHlyJI/preview" width="640" height="480"></iframe>

We wrote everything in story bits and we'll get to work on making the characters the following day.

Texturing the model - 6/2/26

Figure 0.0: Vroid UI_Starting on character model
I went into vroid the previous night to make the base model of our character. I went off completely on the previous concept art we had for major project 1. After which I continued making refinements to the model such as texture and fixing the facial proportions.

You can see the process of me texturing our model here in this stream!

By the end of the stream I had results that looked something like this

And here are my first attempts at texturing this model.

The second stream ended up with better results which you can watch by clicking the link below:

The main changes I made was to fix the position of the eyes and nose.

New concept art - 2/9/26
Tonight at 2am i did the concept art for Freija's new look

Figure 0.4: Freija's Redesign_WIP version 1

Earlier the same day I tried learning how to sculpt in blender. If I could do that then at least I could help out more with the production. My stream then promptly crashed. This was because you would need one very powerful CPU to even think about running sculpting in Blender. x

Updated concept art - 2/10/26

This day I also started on photo-bashing some matte scenes together. Which you can watch in the stream link below!

Week 2 - 2/12/26

2/12/26 Today we filmed reference footage for our animatic.

I need to finish the animatic by Monday. I also need to finish up that concept art! The director's waiting for me to finish drawing  her clothes, and the animatic better not be something that moves around so much otherwise it would cost us too much trouble.

2/14/26 - Today I fixed up Freija's concept art and started work on the animatic

The director requested a change her hairstyle to a bun for ease of animation.

2/19/26

By February 19th I finished the entire storyboard.

Our lecturer's feedback was "It would've been nice if you could make it a video, I would be able to see what kind of movie it would be at this rate. But I also understand that you don't have the time, its only 7 weeks after all."

The original product was 3 minutes long but due to one of our members deferring we have to cut the story down to 1 minute 30 seconds. We decided to focus on the main fight scene as per lecturer's suggestion.

21/2/26
I learned the basics of animation by learning to move a cube.

22/2/26
Today I opened up blender to learn the ins and outs of animating our character model. While it is not perfect I am learning something.

Week 3 - 24/2/26
I continued more on the digital matte painting of the castle, I also did the skies.

I personally do not like the two of these I think I could do better but this genuinely isn't good.

                                                                        -End of week 3-

Reflection

I know that we were given 7 weeks because the lecturers assumed that we'd be working on it since semester 4, but I would also like to say we were also busy with other classes and internships throughout the semester. Safe to say this is going to be one "hell" of a semester.

Weeks 4-6

Week 4 - 1/3/26

Figure 1.8: Poster visual rough draft

During the 4th week I started working on the poster and art deck. I was really struggling with the animation so our director told me to go work on the presentation and the visuals. I sketched out 4 different versions of the image, I used the model to in blender to make the pose and loaded it into the software to give it a little render test. The image came out amazing with the overlay layers! So I loaded blender once again and posed the model better.

Figure 1.9: Poster visual_draft 1_wip

The gem was initially orange before we decided the name of our project, using blending layers I changed its color to a vibrant blue. For the background I took an unfinished render of the castle hall and painted over it.

3/3/26

Figure 2.4: Logo Drafts

To create the title I loaded Noto sans into affinity and typed our title into 3 different layers I proceeded to use clipping masks and exported it as a PSD into my usual software where I made the needed changes such as rearranging the words, giving it shadow and changing the gradient to something darker and more readable.

Note: We updated our logo.

Once I was done with the poster visuals I then started working on the art deck for the majority of weeks 5-6, documenting all the work we did and arranging the slides like a book.

Presentation - Art deck

After this I continued working on the presentation until I got the cuts of animation from my director.

Weeks 6-7

I worked on editing and compositing for the rest of the week as well as the presentation deck.

Figure 2.7: timeline bug

There was some bugs the first time but around the second time it got better. I collected a bunch of sound effects and fun fact the music we used was from league of legends, the source of our animation.

Final Animation

Reflection

Experience
This was genuinely hell. I don’t know how we actually managed to pull it off but apparently we somehow did. There was a lot of learning that had to be done, texturing was a first for me as well as making storyboards, we didn’t have this in the entertainment design curriculum and it should honestly be taught in both animation and entertainment. Learning to animate is also a first, I am terrible at it. This project was truly the experience of stress and nightmares. We had a lot of set-backs but somehow we managed to pull through.

Observation
I never thought I'd ever learn to animate in blender, learn how to texture a 3D model and operate blender. Its harder then I imagined they don't teach you this in entertainment design.

Findings
I am not sure if they know but we were very busy during our semester 5 and internships. The faculty was also playing this huge game of telephone, a he says she says situation, it impacted our workflow significantly which wasn't the best thing ever. Also if we had more time I feel like we could produce something much higher quality.

The last blog post

Its been one heck of a journey, ever since Mr.Vinod made us write these in semester 1 all the way up til now. I want to thank my friends who stuck by me for the whole ride.

Thank you for everything I'm graduating!.
